Children's Hospital

On Wednesday, June 15th, 2011, I woke up bragging that my sweet baby slept 5 hours both times throughout the night.  After taking Cailey to the airport I noticed that Brooks wasn't waking up to eat.  When I finally woke him up, he wouldn't stay awake.  This continued all day long and it really started to weigh on me.  After seeking advice from some very helpful friends, I decided to call Brooks' pediatrician.  She advised us that this could be an early sign of infection.  We took Brooks' to Lakepoint hospital in Rowlett.  After 2 x-rays, lots of blood work, a catheter, and a spinal tap, we were already exhausted.  It broke my heart having to see/hear him go through all the pain of being pricked and poked time after time.  The doctor finally came back and said the spinal tap was very irregular.  Some numbers were really high, one was low, and was had white blood cells in it.  They decided it was best we go to Children's hospital.  The ambulance took Brooks and I over while my mom and Charlie followed behind.  At this point, we thought there was something really wrong with the spinal tap results and that there might be water on his brain.  (This was all from the doctors at Lakepoint.)

As soon as we arrived at Children's the doctors were basically in our room waiting.  They all informed us that everything was a lot better than Lakepoint made it sound.  We started over with the tests and she made us feel a lot better about the entire situation.  After more pricking and prodding for blood, an IV, and lots of kisses.  Brooks was settled into bed.  Charlie and I both had to snuggle on the pull-out bed.  Not comfortable at all!

It took until Thursday late afternoon for Brooks to finally start to wake himself up to eat.  We have such wonderful family and friends. Thank you Nana, Papa, Aunt Jackie, Rachelle, Shelley, and Ashli for coming to see us and check on Brooks.  We appreciate your kind hearts.  Also, thanks to everyone who called, sent texts, messages on facebook, and everyone who prayed.  We are also very thankful for the sweet Krugers.  They kept our other sweet baby, Kylee while we took care of Brooks.

Papa was a little worried about Brooks.

This was the first picture of Brooks when he decided to stay awake.  He was showing off and stayed awake for 3 hours.

This is a horrible picture of me, but it had been over 24 hours since I was at home.  But look at the little man all happy and awake feeling better.

Ashli and Zachary came to see Brooks.  What a sweet picture.

Finally, after all the waiting and praying, God answered our prayers.  Brooks is feeling better and able to return to home after about 48 hours.  Prayers are powerful!!!!

All ready to go!  Look at him being alert.

Now that we are home, Brooks is still quite sleepy and a little fussy.  We are hoping he sleeps good tonight in his own bed.  I know Charlie and I sure will!
