At the Hospital (May 12, 2011)

Kylee was so scared when she finally arrived at the hospital.  She didn't know what to think of me being hooked up to all the machines.

Thank God for my sweet mother who is always there for my family and I.

Daddy and Kylee looking at Daddy's scrubs.
After being told we had to wait a while before we could have the c-section, out came the toys and games.  We had to find something to keep this active 5 year busy for several hours.

Nana and Kylee were cold so they made themselves a burrito to stay warm.
Kylee even had her Daddy sitting on the floor putting a puzzle together.

I LOVE him!

Waiting for the arrival of our little man!  Charlie has his eyes closed as usual.
And Brooks makes his arrival on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 11:29 am.

The Night Before....

The night before we went into have Brooks, my mom came to spend the night.  She would take care of Kylee while Charlie and I
were at the hospital.  She had this brilliant idea to take pictures of my baby belly.  I wasn't thrilled, but it's something we will cherish forever.

Time to Catch Up!!

The week before I left for maternity leave, all three of my classes threw a baby shower for me and Brooks.  They played games, ate a little snack, and opened gifts.  What a blessing it has been to be a part of such a wonderful school.

My best friend Amanda and her nieces took Kylee and I out to eat for Kylee's "Big Sister" dinner.  It was a lot of fun.  The girls had a great time playing while Amanda and I were busy visiting.

Brooks Allen Vaughan

HE'S HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 11:29am, our handsome little man made his grand entrance into this wonderful world.
Let me start from the beginning.  Wednesday night, my mother stayed with us at our house because Charlie and I had to be at the hospital at 6:00am.  Not only was I nervous, but I think Kylee had a stomach full of butterflies as well.  After tossing and turning all night, Charlie and I were both up before our alarms went off.  We loaded up the cars and headed to Presbyterian Rockwall.  We were greeted with wonderful nurses and got everything ready to go. The baby and I both looked wonderful!  The doctors came in and said we'd be ready to go at 8:15am.  Mom and Kylee eventually made it to hospital about 7:30.  Charlie and mom had to keep her entertained.  She wanted nothing to do with me while I was hooked up to all the machines and lying in the hospital bed.  After having everything prepared, we were notified that the operating room was going to be occupied by an emergency c-section.  We then waited patiently until about 11:00am before they came and took me back.  Mom and Kylee went to McDonald's for lunch, and Charlie put his scrubs on and came in the OR.  After several attempts of trying to get the spinal block in, she finally used an epidural to get the the spinal in that way.  Talk about uncomfortable pain. OUCH!!!  Now the ball was rolling!!!  They called Charlie in and began working on the delivery.  I was a little nervous about the entire situation.  All the nurses and doctors were very compassionate and tried to keep me comfortable.  With extreme pressure of the doctors trying to deliver the baby, I felt like I couldn't breathe.  One of the doctors asked me if it feels like they are sitting on my chest.  YES! It sure did!  She said because they are! LOL!  As they started to deliver the baby, the doctors kept talking about how big he was.  One even mentioned, "Wow!  Look at his head.  He's got a big head."  Charlie and I both looked at each other like, what the heck?!?! The doctors finally removed the baby and brought him over for a quick peek at his mommy and daddy.  He didn't look big to me, but after weighing in at 8 pounds 5 ounces and was 21 inches long, I guess that is a bigger baby.  The nurses took the baby to check him over and make sure everything ok, while the doctors started to sew me back together.  Charlie and I still hadn't decided on a name at this point.  We knew we liked Maddox James, or Brooks Allen.  One of the doctors asked the nurse to turn the radio on....and what do you know.... Garth Brooks was singing.  We knew then, that Brooks Allen would be the name of our precious baby boy.
